
At its centre is the Marilyn & Charles Baillie Special Collections Centre, a three level climate controlled environment housing Rare Books & Archives, Canadiana, Maps, and the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection. Uniquely, these internationally significant collections are entirely accessible to the public.






The revitalization introduced the Digital Innovation Hub, Idea Gardens with bio walls, glass enclosed Study Pods, and the Bram and Bluma Appel Salon. A reconfiguration of the stacks enhances and simplifies research while new event spaces, galleries, and an amphitheatre animate the building.

The library remained fully operational throughout phased construction, with all collections accessible at all times. Careful coordination ensured life safety, acoustic control, and environmental protection for rare materials, reinforcing TRL’s role as the renewed heart of the Toronto Public Library system.
