Located within the Guelph Arboretum, the Centre enhanced connections to the campus and integrated trail system. The grounds balanced ecological functions with educational programming, highlighting cultivated agricultural plots, working hives, and pollinator-friendly habitats.
Designed as a low-carbon mass timber facility, the HBRC demonstrated passive design, high-performance systems, and landscape strategies such as rain gardens and a green roof. The project moved beyond sustainability toward an architecture of regeneration.

Delineated pathways and an accessible roofscape connected visitors to research, events, and outdoor learning. The sweeping roof structure and Interpretive Tower acted as a focal expression of the public realm while doubling as a solar chimney.
