Founded more than 65 years ago by Raymond Moriyama and Ted Teshima, the firm emerged from a place of exclusion and displacement, and ultimately of resilience. These early experiences established a deep commitment to dignity and democracy, which found architectural expression in formative public works including the Ontario Science Centre and the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. From the outset, the firm demonstrated that architecture can be generous and humane, capable of welcoming difference while fostering shared civic life.

Today, the firm operates through a collective voice that brings together diverse perspectives through shared values. Over the past twenty years, MTA has pushed boundaries in social inclusion, inventive process, architectural beauty that uplifts daily life, and technical leadership shared openly with the broader architectural community. More recent work, including Limberlost Place, reflects this maturity through leadership in low carbon design and mass timber innovation, shaped by an attentiveness to human experience. Taken together, the firm advances architecture as public good through shared leadership and responsibility to people, place, and the future.
