Canadian Museum of History, History Hall Renewal

The Canadian Museum of History, originally called the "Canadian Museum of Civilization" which opened in 1989, was designed as an organic expression of architecture, supporting the enhancement of Canadian history and culture. Inspired by the route of the Ottawa River which flows in front the museum, Douglas Cardinal's concept for the Canadian History Hall invites visitors to begin their journey into the heart of Canada's past and future. MTA took on the complete reconfiguration and reconstruction of this gallery, including the addition of a new mezzanine, new ramps and stairs for visitor circulation and exiting, and the careful relocation and protection of St. Onuphrius Church, a large historic artifact that was re-incorporated into the new gallery structure.
